The Beach and Bazaar Area

Immediately north of the fort stretches the pedestrian-only Finikoudhes promenade. This in turn is fronted by the town beach -some 800m of gritty, hard-packed sand, well patronized despite its mediocre condition. If it's not to your taste, you'll find somewhat better beaches to either side of town, at Perivalia and around Ayia Napa.

The bulk of the bazaar sprawls north of Ayios Uzaros, but it effectively had its heart torn out by the demolition of the covered central market; the best remaining shopping options in Larnaca are discussed on p.l 03. Though you're unlikely to be tempted to stay here, stop in a moment at the youth hostel to examine the mosque that houses it, the unusual nineteenth-century Zuhuri Cami (literally, "Clown Mosque") with its double dome and truncated minaret.
